The E.W. Scripps Company serves audiences and businesses through a growing portfolio of television, print and digital media brands generating nearly $1 billion in annual revenues. Scripps owns 21 local television stations as well as daily newspapers in 13 markets across the United States. It also runs an expanding collection of local and national digital journalism and information businesses including digital video news service, Newsy. Reflecting the move to more digital journalistic offerings, Scripps partnered with Black & White to create a web-based annual report to shareholders better leveraging technology to tell its investor story. Even the report’s theme, “Stories in Your Hands”, is a nod to the exponential growth in media consumption on mobile devices and tablets.

MOBILE OPTIMIZATION

As mobile devices and tablets become more prominent in media consumption, Scripps wanted to be sure that all readers were allowed to view the report in an optimized fashion, regardless of screen size. Black & White employed a responsive framework to ensure mobile and tablet optimization.

Scripps challenged Black & White to develop the annual report with an engaging design that would allow the viewer to browse each story quickly and easily for optimal usability. The result is a creative but intuitive interface with impactful narratives.
