The iconic Valvoline brand has historically pioneered breakthroughs in engine performance and today remains the leader in the automotive lubricant industry.

For over 150 years, sustainability – keeping engines running better and longer – has been the driver behind Valvoline’s success.

To help underscore those sustainable product benefits, and shine a light on the company’s broader environmental and social sustainability efforts, Valvoline endeavored to produce its first CSR report.

When we were selected to help bring those stories to life, we decided to start with a little elbow grease. So we popped open the hood, immersed ourselves in the Valvoline brand, benchmarked other CSR reports, conducted stakeholder interviews, and initiated a plan to put Valvoline’s best foot forward.

We developed a theme and narrative that emanated directly from Valvoline employees – and the stakeholders who have been positively impacted – for a more authentic tone.

“Voices Of Valvoline”

We developed a “sustainability” microsite as a repository for the highlights of the report, including the CEO message, the GRI index, and the most significant events or milestones of the year.

The site is fully responsive to provide the best user experience regardless of device.

The GRI report was created as an “interactive” PDF, easily navigable for the casual viewer or the most experienced sustainability analysts.

We wrote the report, and the stories behind it, to illuminate Valvoline stakeholder perspectives and their efforts to improve the company’s products, to lessen environmental impacts, and to make their communities better places to live and work.

Metrics supporting the CSR initiatives’ impacts were featured throughout the report and site.

As we move into our next collaboration with Valvoline, we continually search for new ways to leverage web technology to provide the stakeholders an optimal and immersive brand experience.
